Annual Pork Pie competition (22nd) a great success. Hinchliffes win again.

Sport

Pies

Pie Club enjoy a selection of the tremendous pies from Hinchliffe’s Farm Shop who won both the traditional and artisan classes.

The artisan pies with caramelised onion and cheese were a big hit.

Pies

Peter   Small pie with lovely crunchy fresh pastry. Well filled with coarse meat subtly spiced. Not much jelly but did not need it.

Score   8.5/10

Bruce   Small good looking pie, crisp crunchy fresh pastry. No jelly,coarse meat with bacon bits in it. Quite tasty but needed more spice. A good pie.

Score   8.0/10

Tim   Lardy pastry,  soggy bottom. Coarse meat , not a lot of flavour.

Score   6.0/10

Luke   Pies looked all different. Cross section looked bad. Lots of flavour. Fresh pastry.

Score   7.0/10

Will   Fresh pie, a little small thick pastry. Coarse tasty meat. Lacked jelly.

Pies

Will  Large fairly attractive stand pie. Thick pastry as expected but fresh and tasty. Meat was Ok but chunks of lard. Too much Jelly, No afterburn.

Bruce   Huge pie. More like a stand pie. Very thick pastry, dry and crumbly but quite tasty. Lots of jelly, but not much flavour. Meat was OK but needed more seasoning. Prefer a small pie.

Mark   Attractive looking pie. Well cooked, nice crispy pastry. Thick pastry but had to be due to the size of the pie. Lots of jelly which was shame as it was tasteless. Enjoyed the meat. Lots of afterburn. Very fresh. Quite enjoyed it.

Bruce   Good looking pie, soft pastry, tasty jelly, succulent meat but needed more pepper. Potential to be a good pie.

Peter   Good looking pie. Pastry soft and crisp in places. Quite tasty.

Kevin   Shiny good looking pie. Top was crispy. Meat was pale and tasted better than it looked.
